The Coalition government has officially launched the consultation process in respect of HS2. The UK Independence Party at national level & at local level are as one, united in voice and remains the ONLY political party strongly opposed to the proposal. We believe the business case is severely flawed and at a time when the Coalition is trying to reduce the record deficit left by Labour the cost of such a project cannot be justified when it will cost every Parliamentary Constituency in the region of £52 million.
HS2 is a local issue, it will affect residents living along the proposed Conservative, Liberal Democrat & Labour parties proposed route. Did you know that Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg & Shadow Leader Ed Miliband all support this route through Aylesbury Vale? Well it certainly is true......The Conservatives, Liberal Democrats & Labour all support HS2.
Conservative Minister & Cabinet member Philip Hammond said " That the peoples of Wendover, Great Missenden, Aylesbury, Waddesdon & Quainton are just all Nimbys! You have your first chance to send a message to Mr Hammond & the Coalition government....by voting UKIP on the 5th May in your local elections in these areas...
Opponents of the High Speed Rail plan are ‘dishonest Nimbys’ according to transport secretary Philip Hammond.
Critics say the £33billion rail link proposal from London to Leeds/Manchester is not green enough and far too expensive.
Mr Hammond launched his most scathing attack to date.
Nimby is an acronym of Not In My Back Yard – a derogatory term for people who would be in favour of something were it not taking place near their home.
‘There is not much more to their argument than Nimbyism,’ he said.
‘I hear lots of arguments about whether the country can afford it, value for money and the business case. But 95 per cent of these arguments come from people who just happen to live in [affected towns] Wendover or Aylesbury or Amersham.
‘I don’t blame them for fighting their corner but they should be honest that their objection to this project is that it comes through their backyard. It is not a principled objection.’
Mr Hammond said instead of putting up fares, many could drop dramatically as operating companies try to compete on price with the new 250mph trains.
If you vote Conservative, Liberal Democrat or Labour you ARE voting for HS2, to devalue your own property.... a vote for UKIP is a strong vote & message to them all...We don't want it, we cannot afford & there is no business case for it!
Any High Speed Rail proposal must be justified on the basis of National Interest and we have not seen persuasive evidence that it meets this test.
The UK Independence Party is the only party that will continue to fight these plans on behalf of local people and believes this is best achieved from within the party by making the strongest possible representations to the key decision makers within the Coalition Government.
